Women Masters lifters continue to dominate the rewriting of the New England Records Book, but there is a bit of variety to report, so read on. The Bay State Games Olympic Weightlifting component was staged at UMass-Boston, as has become the tradition, July 22 and 23. Technical Director/Speaker Denis Reno once again oversaw the action on two platforms, and the event ran very smoothly indeed. What I report here is based on the Official Results I was sent, but some data were missing. I will publish an Update if I get new, more accurate info. Working up from lightest Bodyweight Classes/youngest athletes (for the Masters), we find Corrin Lemieux (Bay State Barbell, MA) capturing all the marks in Age Group 35-39/69 Kilos Class, with Snatch–81 kgs., Clean & Jerk–100 kgs., Total–181 kgs. This is very formidable lifting, as Jessica Weisman had dominated this category for some time. Danamarie Movsessian (Unattached) improved two of her own records in Age Group 40-44/63 Kilos Class. Her C&J of 90 kgs. bumped her Total mark up to 156 kgs. In Age Group 50-54/69 Kilos Class Miriam Smith (Teamwork Sports Performance, MA) had a successful Snatch with 38 kgs., which also bumped her record Total to 88 kgs. Not to be outdone, Annette Dawson (North Shore Weightlifters, MA) followed suit in Age Group 65-69/90 Kilos Class. A Snatch of 30 kgs, advanced her Total record to 69 kgs. Toward the other end of the age scale, 15-year-old Anthony Gianoulis (also North Shore), son of Alex, is the new Youth Records king of the 85 Kilos Bodyweight Class (Age Division 14/15). The records there now stand at Snatch–70 kgs., C&J–85 kgs. and Total–155 kgs. And we were even blessed with a Junior Women’s Record of 95 kgs. Clean & Jerk, achieved by Logan Filo-Loos (CrossFit Crag, Marlborough, MA) for 69 Kilos Class. Congratulations to all these freshly minted New England Recordholders!!

The Saturday immediately following Bay State Games brought the RWL Open Weightlifting Competition in Franklin, MA, at the conclusion of a very successful RWL Summer Weightlifting Camp. Meet Director Dr. Ellyn Robinson reigned over a modest sized event at RWL’s facility which still managed to produce a New England Record for the host team’s Captain, Jessica Cummings. Competing in Age Group 35-39 (Jessica became a Masters lifter just this year), 75 Kilos Class, Ms. Cummings produced a Snatch of 67 kgs. Way to go, Captain!!

Competitions in New England slip into a bit of a lull now, until RWL presents the 7th Annual Ginny Robinson Memorial Competition in Franklin the weekend of October 7/8. See you there?
