NEW ENGLANDERS AT SENIOR NATIONALS (Yeah, there are Records!)

Posted May 21, 2017 by Greg Laxer, Webmaster/Records Keeper

The outstanding performance at the USAW Senior National Championships in Chicago earlier this month, in my opinion, has to be credited to North Shore Weightlifting‘s Jennyfer Roberts. Jenn won the Bronze Medal in 58 Kilos Bodyweight Class–only one kilogram shy of the Silver Medalist’s Total! In achieving this, she upped her own New England Snatch Record to 86 kgs., equalled Olympian Carissa Gordon’s Clean & Jerk Record (105 kgs.) and wrested possession of Carissa’s Total Record, with 191 kgs. I’d say this performance merits a glass or two of bubbly (wouldn’t want you to “break training,” though, Jenn!). Beantown Barbell‘s Amy Richardson was not far behind in level of accomplishment, gaining 4th Place in 53 Kilos Class. Amy‘s Snatch of 75 kgs. plus C&J of 95 yielded a new New England Record Total of 170 kgs. In the lightest Women’s Bodyweight Class of 48 Kilos, Beantown‘s Amylynne Frankel (who is, technically, a Masters Lifter) scored a Total of 128 kgs. for 23rd Place overall. At the other end of the weight spectrum, Mackenzie Roy (Rumbler WL, New Hampshire) put up a Total of 200 kgs. for 7th Place in 90+ Kilos Class. Congratulations to all these outstanding New England Women lifters!!

On the Men’s side of these National Championships, Ernie Prempeh (listed as lifting for East Coast Gold, but I’m assuming he still resides in New England) came in 14th in 69 Kilos Class, achieving a Total of 241 kgs. In 85 Kilos Class, North Shore‘s Nguyen Huynh‘s Total of 280 kgs. put him in 16th Place. Kenly Pena (listed as Unattached), competing in 105s, unfortunately was unable to post a total. A very strong young man, Kenly should be around for a while.

RWL EVENT ON MAY 27 WILL BE BIG!

About 100 athletes are slated to compete Saturday, May 27 (starting as early as 7 AM!) in the RWL (Robinson Weightlifting) Memorial Day Weekend Open competition in Franklin, MA. More than likely you won’t be turned away if you wish to volunteer to help out that day. Or, just come by and spectate–you’ve still got two days remaining in the Holiday weekend! (Three if you’re one of those naughty types who blows off work on holiday weekend Fridays!)
