A number of New Englanders competed in the USAW National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah July 18-20, 2014. As has been the trend lately in our LWC, the women were dominant. The highest placer was Lindsey Stroker (Team CT), coming in 7th in Women 53 Kilos Class with her Total of 151 kilos. In the same session, Snow Powers (North Shore WL) finished in 11th place with her Total of 148. Moving up a Bodyweight Class we find Amy Richardson (Livefree WL, New Hampshire) finishing 12th in 58 Kilos Class. Amy equalled Carrie Boudreau’s longstanding Snatch mark of 67 kilos and surpassed her own Clean & Jerk New England Record with a good 92 kilos lift. This yielded a new NE LWC Record Total of 159 kilos. Way to go, Amy!!

In the 63 Kilos Class, Kat O’Neill (Robinson WL) had a Total of 174 kilos, gaining her 9th place overall. Gwen Sisto (unattached, Maine), unfortunately, did not total. In 75+ Kilos Class, Mackenzie Roy (Rumbler, New Hampshire) got 16th place with her total of 173. Carly Mauch (Robinson WL) was unable to achieve a total.

Of the three men who competed for New England clubs, Justin Parent (Livefree, NH) fared best. His total of 223 kilos gave him 19th place in 69 Kilos Class. In 94 Kilos Class, Gunnar Mattson (Rumbler) and Bart Smarkucki (Sacred Heart, Fairfield, CT) were unable to achieve totals.

Congratulations to all these lifters for having won the right to compete on “the big stage” of Nationals, even though some doubtless came away disappointed.
