Gerry Ferrelli, coached by Joe Mills of Central Falls, RI made waves in the 1960s. In April 1965 he set a US National Teenage Record of 350 lbs. in the Clean & Jerk; his bodyweight was 189 lbs. He would twice establish new US Teenage Snatch Records that same year, with good lifts of 275 1/2 and then 279 1/2 lbs., the latter at bodyweight of only 184 lbs. In July 1965 Gerry put up 375 lbs. in the C&J at a bodyweight of 185. A few months later, in the then-existing 90 Kgs. Class, Ferrelli achieved: Press–285; Snatch–301; C&J–381 (cleaned 400 lbs. but couldn’t get it overhead). Gerry  established a Junior World Record 305 lbs. Snatch in the Super-Heavyweight Class. At time of his induction, he was credited with holding Rhode Island State Records with that mark, plus a Clean & Jerk of 400 lbs. for a Total of 705 lbs. The following marks from 1964 also still held as New England Teenage Records (198 Lbs. Bodyweight Class): Snatch–300 lbs.; Clean & Jerk–380 lbs.; Total–680 lbs.
