Dave became active as a teenage athlete in Olympic WL in the early 1970s. Got involved 1973 in setting up and running local WL competitions, including New England Association (now called LWC) Championships. He set up local contests in Salem, MA, in the mid-‘70s, including Region 1 Junior Olympics and established the Atlantic States Open meet as an annual late-winter event (held for many years at the Lynn, MA YMCA), continuing to present day. In 1976-’78 Dave organized four Olympic Weightlifting training camps in New England area. Lussier helped organize WL segment of Bay State (Massachusetts) Games for 1986 and following year. Served as President of New England LWC, 1988-2001 (youngest individual to have held that post). Helped establish a local meet schedule, program for certifying LWC Referees and an annual New England WL Awards Banquet. David Lussier continues to volunteer to help run local meets to the present day despite his grueling work schedule.
